Frequently Asked Questions

What is Heave?

Let's say you have a CAT 336 excavator that just went down. Normally, you would call the dealer and ask when you could get a technician. What if you went to a website and could view multiple, insured, and trained heavy equipment technicians close to you and pick who you want to service your machine? That's Heave. That's what we do every day.

What types of equipment and repairs does Heave cover?

Our technicians specialize in a wide range of repairs on earthmoving equipment like excavators, bulldozers, and loaders from brands like CAT, John Deere, and Komatsu. (Our techs have serviced 100+ brands!) Typical repairs include DEF/regen issues, hydraulic and electrical repairs, PM service, welding/line boring, and more.

Who are Heave's typical customers?

Our customers include large contractors in industries like utilities, heavy civil construction, excavation, and site preparation who own fleets of 100+ machines who are frustrated by OEM/dealer service response times in their service areas. We also work with national rental companies and even some dealerships.

What markets is Heave active in?

Our core markets are FL, TX, TN, GA, NC, LA, OK, AL, OH, IN, IL, and PA. However, we have technicians in 44 states and are rapidly expanding to become the nationwide service provider for all equipment brands.

Why not just go straight to the technician?

If you do, you assume the liability. If that technician is injured on your job site, you are exposed. Health insurance does not cover workplace injuries.

This is not theoretical. It’s expensive. We’ve seen six-figure claims.

When you book directly, you’re relying solely on the tech’s individual policy.

When you book through Heave, the job is backed by:

- Workers’ Compensation
- Commercial Auto Liability
- General Liability
- Umbrella / Excess Liability

You want Heave’s protection layer behind the work.

Know the risk you’re taking on.
Direct booking = direct liability.
Heave booking = protection behind the job.

How do I request service?

It's easy! Download the Heave mobile app or go to https://app.heaveapp.com/ to order service online. Once you have created an account or signed in, order service by setting the location of the machine, selecting the machine's make/model, describe the machine's issue, and booking a technician.

How do I choose a technician?

Once you submit a request, you'll see profiles of available technicians in your area. You can review their experience, qualifications, skills, customer ratings and reviews, hourly rates and other fees, availability, and more. It is up to you who you choose--and why!

Can I communicate with the technician directly?

Yes! Once you book a technician you can use the in-app chat to communicate, ask questions, and get real-time updates on the job's progress.

Is there a subscription cost?

No! There are no subscription costs or hidden fees. We just invoice you per job. You only pay when a service has been completed.

Where does Heave find its technicians?

Our technicians are experienced, independent professionals who own their own service trucks, tools, and software. Many are former OEM/dealer technicians who have chosen the independence of running their own businesses.

How are the technicians vetted?

We require technicians to have their own service truck, tools and diagnostic software, and a minimum of $1 million in general liability insurance. In addition, technicians go through an onboarding process where we gain an understanding of their skill levels across multiple disciplines.

Are the technicians Heave employees or independent contractors?

They are independent contractors, which means they have the flexibility to set their own schedules and manage their own businesses within the Heave network.

How does payment work?

After a job is completed through Heave, we send a single invoice to the customer with net 30-day payment terms. The amount due includes the technician’s rate and any applicable fees, all shown upfront at the time of booking—our 22% service markup is already built in. No matter how many technicians you book through the app, Heave remains your sole vendor.

Does Heave cover warranty work for dealers?

We can handle third-party warranty work, but not OEM warranties at this time.

How do parts work?

Many of our customers order parts from their local dealer on their account as usual. Or, upon request, Heave can buy the parts for a small markup.

How is rework handled?

Your satisfaction is guaranteed with Heave. Your first job comes with a 100% money-back guarantee if you’re not 100% satisfied, so you can try us with complete confidence. After that, you're covered by our 500-hour or 90-day warranty. We also have dedicated Account Executives in our core markets to ensure customer satisfaction.
